Another spectacularly fine day that started in the early morning haze. Our first stop was on the side of the road overlooking some rice fields. What we thought was going to be wetland turned into largely dry fields due to the season. Note to self ... we are here in the winter and the dry. Our target view for this location, the Watercock. A secretive bird we managed some good views at a distance and through the scope. Already, I am very pleased I brought it along.

Next stop was some more dry rice fields looking for Bunting. More long grass and bamboo to negotiate. Trying to find small birds in long grass and hazy conditions. They are fast and secretive. But I have always enjoyed a challenge.
We headed back to our accommodation for an enjoyable lunch overlooking the beach then checked out. We are travelling this afternoon to another location.
But first, the early afternoon saw us on a boat trip down a mangrove canal out to a sand spit in search of the Chinese Egret, Malay Plover and White-faced Plover. Bird of the day is definitely going to be a challenge after so many great birds seen. Another highlight was the massive water monitor seen in the banks of the canal.
