We started birdwatching at Mae Hia agriculture area which is part of the Chiang Mai University. Our target birds this morning were Red Avadavet, Rufous-winged Buzzard, Burmese Shrike, Wire-tailed Swallow, Purple Sunbird, Oriental Skylark, Pied Bushchat, Scaly-breasted Munia and more. The dry paddy fields were busy with life and I could have spent many hours there quite happily.

The rest of the day had us transfering 4 hr. to Pha Hom Pok national park in Fang town. But on the way stopped to bird at Nong Bong freshwater swamp located in the Vocational Training Center of Border Patrol Police, Mae Tang District. Habitats around here include dry dipterocarp forest, freshwater swamp and orchard. We were in search of some rare wintering Ducks. Apart from the Lesser Whistling ducks we also found some Pintails and Northern Shoveller.

Next spot, birding at Wat Tham Pha Plong Cave. This is a location surrounded by limestone mountains and if lucky here you can see Lime Stone Wren Babbler (we dipped). However, found other species to keep our interest.
