Doi Sanju is reported to be one of the best locales for birding and bird photography in Thailand. Not much is really available when you do a google search for it however. Our guide Mr Chalee took us to a variety of sites along the security road of Thai–Myanmar border up to an elevation 2,020 metres above sea level.
The early morning transfer to the feeding spot of Mountain Bamboo Partridge and Hume's Pheasant were thwarted by another bird photographer camped directly on the feeding station. We spent the whole day birding along the road, and avoiding the honey bees that found us quite appealing for some reason. We spent the whole day birding along the road, and it was one of those days that I call a "Slow Bird" not because there are not very many species to be seen. Quite the contrary - it is one of those days where you can take your time and enjoy observing their behaviours, take photos, and really just be in the moment (Cliché I know). The only mar on the days adventures were the honey bees that found us all appealing for some reason. I came back to our accommodation with a feeling of satisfaction for a great day out.
